Windows & Doors

Mystery. Suspense. Intrigue. Beauty. There are just some of the thoughts that come to mind when I see doors and windows along my journeys.  Not all doors and windows — just the ones that captivate me. Clearly.

The next time you get out and about be aware of the doors and windows around you. What lurks behind the closed ones? Why is this one open?

Venice – this caught my eye as I walked by. Shutters and a tablecloth – is that really a tablecloth?
A view of the Duomo from Giotto’s Bell Tower – Florence. One of my favorite photos. It was fun climbing the steps and not knowing what I’d see when I got to the top. Beautiful!
A view from a windmill – The Netherlands. Didn’t you ever wonder what the view was like from inside a windmill?
Windows – Castle of Donnafugata — Sicily. This caught the sun as it was shining through one of the windows. Isn’t is strange that the top window shows a cloudy sky?
Breakers Mansion – Newport, RI. Newport, RI has many grand mansions but none grander than this one. Imagine living here and seeing this every day?
Through the Castello Maniace window – Siracusa, Sicily. Strong waves smash into this castle on a daily basis and the view is outstanding.
Monterosso, Italy – this was taken a year or so after the devastating flooding that hit the Cinque Terre.
Otranto, Italy – it looks like the people who live behind this window really have pride in their country. Notice the colors – red, white and green, like the Italian flag!
A view of the German countryside through a castle window along the Rhine. Imagine what was seen through this window before I took this photo?

Travel sparks a sense of wonder. Take the time, get out of your comfort zone and out from behind those doors and windows. You never know what you might see.
